A BIRDS EYE VIEW: THE ART OF FLAT LAY

September 20, 2016

We’ve all done it: bent over backwards, awkwardly endeavouring to snap our latest  lipstick loot, jet setting essentials or shopping trip bounty only to be dissatisfied with the result. Don’t  give up, we’ve all been there. Try these TIPS to up your game and master the perfect flat lay.

Let there be LIGHT - Light is something you need to maximize . Use an overhead light that’s bright enough to illuminate your image, but doesn’t blow out the other colours.  If your struggling indoors, go outside.

Stand your GROUND- Choose a background and stick to it. Don’t be afraid to work with a variety of textures. A clean concrete floor, a white rug or bed sheet can create a great backdrop.

Be UNIQUE- Create your own style that sets  you apart. Open your eyes  and watch the world around you. Don’t be afraid to use body parts, they make flat lays come alive!

ROOM to move- Be sure to leave a breathable amount of space between each piece. This prevents a cluttered look.  Remember not to overdo it- sometimes less is more.

ORGANISATION  is the key to success – Flat lays look simple but a lot of work goes into them. Allow plenty of time, be patient and practice.
